America moves toward better times as Roosevelt's emergency re employment agreements begin to take effect. Reports indicate millions of jobs created and widespread industry compliance in steel and oil sectors, signaling progress in the national recovery program.
Edward Moorhead proprietor of a small store says the NRA code has raised his pay and cut his hours. He notes it is a break for him and means he won’t have to stay open all night.

He had been divorced from his Reno wife who later married Commander Howard A Flanagan USN. He served as a World War I major wounded at Chateau Thierry.
Karl C Schuyler former United States senator from Colorado died in Lenox Hill hospital from a fractured pelvis after being struck by an automobile in Central Park on July 17. He had hidden his identity as James Evans during his 11 days of injury and later identified himself to hospital staff. His wife Arsena Shepard and son Karl C Schuyler Jr. traveled from Colorado Springs to Denver to arrange burial. Police planned to question driver Frank Spagnnoli at homicide court as the incident was investigated.
The new policy outline from Secretary Ickes requires use of human labor over machinery where practical for public works funded by 3.3 billion dollars. It calls for equitable job distribution, bans convict labor, favors local workers and unions, and sets a 30 hour week where feasible. Preferences go to materials and projects aligned with state plans and promptly started sites near employment centers.
Revival services at the New Zion Baptist church near Winnsboro will run all week. Rev. J W Franklin of Crowville Baptist church leads the meetings at 10 30 a m and 7 30 p m daily. An earlier note mis-stated the church as a colored congregation. it is a white church with large crowds attending.

Oklahoma City April 1 Charles F Urschel the 40 year old oil heir was released by kidnappers after an undisclosed ransom. Urschel said his eyes were taped for nine days and he did not know where he was taken. He described a nine day ordeal near Norman and near Oklahoma City. His family and associates confirmed a ransom payment was made and Urschel refused to discuss the amount.
Monroe and West Monroe shifted into an N R A mood as July gave way to August. Stores opened later at 9 a m, wages rose, hours shortened, and more workers filled jobs. At James Wooten’s post office, peace of Roosevelt’s reemployment program started with copies of the agreement available from 8 to 10:30 a m.
The Farm Credit Administration will roll out a county by county refinancing campaign authorized to loan up to 2.2 billion dollars to farmers. Henry Morgenthau Jr. said the effort will speed refinancing and support buyout plans in five states for mortgages held by closed banks to aid liquidation.
New Orleans August 1 AP formal election fraud charges filed against 15 election commissioners by District Attorney Eugene Stanley. The action targets false vote returns on amendment 14 and others from last November, with caps issued for arrest and bonds set at 1000. Court plans to examine six ballot boxes in open court.
Anonymous circulars railing at the parish grand jury and the district attorney spanned New Orleans after martial law was declared. The unsigned leaflets, left on doors and posted downtown, cited the grand jury petition to Gov. Allen for ballot destruction and criticized former governors and local officials.
A Beverly Hills letter from a wary Oklahoman warns of conflict if Texas builds on the Red River. He claims ownership of half the river and pledges to stand in water up to his ankles with a squirrel rifle if Bill Murray prompts a fight. He vows Oklahoma will defend its half.
