Earl Gray a 19 year old from near Seminary was shot and killed by a Covington county deputy while approaching a large still near his home. Three deputy sheriffs in ambush state they ordered surrender and the fatal shot came from a pine thicket.
A 5 year old girl, Marjorie Sian, fights for life at St Francis sanitarium after a shooting in which her father killed her brother Chappell, 7, and himself. The child clung to a tiny pink doll as she remained conscious with only her left hand.
The Shenandoah Baptist association pastors gathering in Berryville Virginia August 1 voice the view that the long drought is a divine judgment for missing church attendance. Delegates from 26 churches in Virginia and West Virginia attended the meeting last Sunday.

In Miami Florida on August 1 vagrancy charges pending against Al Capone and several satellites were dismissed in criminal court. Prosecutors announced no further information would be filed. None of the defendants attended court. Capone attorney Fritz Gordon said Capone was in Miami but away fishing.
