A fire at an asylum in Jackson Mississippi resulted in eight or more inmate deaths. Inmates were rushed back into flames after rescue efforts, with authorities reporting a deadly blaze during the chaotic incident.
In Jackson Mississippi on August 1 fire started at 11 in the negro female ward and spread to the negro male ward by noon. Police reported scores of patients escaped and special detachments were sent to the scene. No lives believed lost though several had narrow escapes.
