A handwritten three page document turned over to a Nevada court in Las Vegas on Thursday, described as the will of Howard Hughes, reportedly leaving up to 2.5 billion dollars to medical research and charitable groups. His two former wives, aides, and others would receive the remaining portions.

A pregnant woman and her husband leaped from the second floor of a two story frame apartment building at 101 Apple St in Monroe as flames gutted the structure. Firefighters from Monroe battled the blaze for over an hour after alarms near 7 a.m. Cause was undetermined. The woman, four months pregnant, was taken to E A Conway Hospital for x rays and treatment. her husband was unharmed. A witness said three children aged seven to 11 had warned residents before the fire. The speed of the blaze left a woman in light clothing and her baby fleeing in the smoke.
Senator Hubert H. Humphrey announced he will not seek the presidency this year, opting to stay on the sidelines unless a deadlocked Democratic convention demands a run. He will not enter the New Jersey primary or fundraise and plans to seek re election to his Senate seat as Carter gains support from Gov Brendan Byrne and other party leaders weigh unity.
