Four New York attorneys named Clarence Emery Gilbert and Henr Ferri seek a court order to let another lawyer use the Ferri surname for business, arguing no confusion with the Ferris line. Defendant Arthur E. Ferri, formerly Adolf Finkelstein, won the right to change his name claiming travel across the United States Mexico and South American countries requires a distinct surname.

Monroe group to join the twenty third annual Louisiana Federation of Business and Professional Women’s clubs in New Orleans May 15 16 17. Delegates hear about the “This Thing Called Freedom” topic by Grace Fitzgerald Dallas attorney and national membership chair. Leaders discuss mechanisms of national and state federation work and related legislation.
James Henry Hard, a Birmingham newspaper and business man for over 50 years, died yesterday at age 84. Survivors include three sons James H. Hard Jr. in Washington, Charles Frederick Hard of Sophia Newcomb College, and Herbert C. Hard in Birmingham, plus four daughters. Funeral services set for the morning at Highlands Methodist Church.
The Y's Men club met in the Northeast Junior College cafeteria for an informal gathering. President O N McNeil announced fund solicitation for the USC and urged members to support it. On May 23 the group will donate a $25 war bond to a member, then films by W E Bennett showed Pearl Harbor, the Normandie fire, Hitler's defeat in Russia, and bomber extinguishing methods. Guests included A E Didier and Erwin Jordan of Cotton Baking company.
Secretary of War Stimson urged American communities to stage send off demonstrations for men leaving for army service to show pride in their service. He said parades and home town displays offer a chance to express confidence in the volunteers, noting officials have observed with regret that some towns have failed to respond.
