Italians face hanging as clemency denied by board of pardons
In New Orleans on April 30 the board of pardons refused clemency for six Italians to be hanged May 9 at Amite for Dallas Calmes murder. The vote was unanimous for two defendants and 2 to 1 for four others. A letter offering bribes to Rennyson and Col. Molony to aid escapes was delivered to the pardon board and noted to threaten an attack on the execution train.
