The criminal court will not be in session tomorrow as planned and there will be no jurors needed. The last case of the term has been tried. John Boatner, charged with robbing the Tidwell Larche store in West Monroe, pled guilty. Judge Fred M. Odom sentenced him to twenty two to twenty four months in the penitentiary.
Drew Gilbert, a Black man, was captured by Deputy Sheriff D. L. Roper at Bosco after a lengthy pursuit. He allegedly stole a pair of shoes and a Winchester pumpgun from Mack Anderson, a Black man on the Ruffin and Hoffman place, with the theft occurring Wednesday. Gilbert had sold the gun for ten dollars and was wearing the shoes when arrested. He is jailed awaiting a criminal court plea.
Complete corrected results in Newark show General Leonard Wood leading Senator Hiram Johnson by 1,207 votes in the New Jersey preferential primary. The tally reflects New Jersey voters choosing between the two in a tight race.
Ringleaders in youths threaten arrest as three juveniles Wayne Barnette 16 Eugene Weaver 12 and Tony Cascio 12 go on trial in Monroe criminal court for stealing cars from Dr J Q Graves Dr T Fr Wright and the Natural Gas Co The case follows a tip from Inspector Robert E Heap and several other local youths remain as witnesses in the judge Fred Odom docket
Caldwell parish sheriff says several residents, including John Killingsworth of Perrin's Island, are suspected of manufacturing and selling intoxicating liquors. A raid found two barrels of mush and a small amount of moonshine. Killingsworth admits making whiskey for personal use but denies selling any. Sheriff McClanahan reports information on at least five others and notes a federal authority will assume charges.
A Monroe Chamber of Commerce meeting organized an anti mosquito drive aiming to raise over 4000 dollars toward the 8070 dollar city pledge to the International Health Board via the State Board of Health. Committees cover wholesale, retail, outlying districts, shops, schools and more with pupil circulars to spread the message and enlist parents. John B.
