George W. Perkins writes Representative McKinley defending Roosevelt support and accusing Taft officials of manipulating Harvester and White House letters. The Steamer Texas of Archipelago American Steamship Co struck a submerged mine at the Gulf of Smyrna entrance Monday evening and sank. One hundred forty persons aboard were drowned. The Texas, flying Turkish flag, carried mails from Constantinople to the Levant. The mine field was laid by Turkish authorities to shield the port from Italian attack. It is alleged the disaster resulted from the Texas deviating from the pilot boat’s indicated course.
St Paul April 30 The Government today began its long planned anti trust suit against the International Harvester Co in Federal Court here. The corporation is declared to violate the Sherman anti trust law and its dissolution is sought.
Nearly one hundred delegates from various Louisiana labor branches met at McMahon's Hall in New Orleans to organize a State Federation of Labor. The convention, moved from Alexandria, will discuss measures to protect labor interests including the employers' liability act and aim to present bills at the next Legislature.

Shreveport April 30 The Times reports high water on the Ateha Falaya River has the Melville bridge draw opened for two to three days to prevent flooding stringers. Texas & Pacific will detour via Southern Pacific through Cheneyville with no expected traffic interruption between Shreveport and New Orleans. The main line remains flood free and service will resume over the Melville bridge in a few days.
