Fifty or more young musicians from the Twin Cities performed arpeggios and cadenzas at the Fine Arts building of Northeast Junior College. The piano auditions were sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, highlighting hopes to become future top pianists.
Local clubs hosted by Mrs W E Smith and Miss Lucille Jones include a luncheon at La Casa for Miss Betty Lou Seamon and a 1 pm book club. The piece outlines YWCA business and professional girls clubs, theater notes on Faust, and spring social schedules in Monroe Louisiana with multiple hostesses and upcoming weddings and lectures.
Neville High School hosts May Day at 6 pm with the Neville Band directed by Randolph Cannon. Grammar and junior high dances include folk and Maypole performances, plus a spring dance by the girls. Miss Esther Ewing is queen with Miss Martha Stewart as maid of honor. Paula Neal serves as senior mascot crown bearer.
Junior Chamber of Commerce Jaycees chair John Morwood announced the water carnival will be a big event on June 7 and 8. Tickets and programs are printed. Williams of the Midget show and the John R. Ward Shows performed for the group. New members and guests included Lawrence Gibbs and Rhes McCook.
The Sterlington 4 H Club met at the school gym to outline plans for Achievement Day at Crosley School West Monroe on May 3 starting at 9 a.m. Earlene Welch, Kermit Bearden, Lloyd C. Gill, Donald Fergus, and Ruby Nell Causey were named monstors. A two act dancing program sponsored by Johnnie Boyette with music by Mrs. Fred Perry was presented.
