Monroe Names Five for City Building Code Board

Mayor John E. Coon announced a five member committee to oversee Monroe's new building code. The board includes Merle Padgett and Allen Turpin as architects, W. C. Salley as contractor, Ivy Jordan as lumber retailer, and Roy Johns Jr. as architect with terms from one to five years. Jet Plane Crashes Near Rocky Branch

An air force jet crashed in a wooded area near Rocky Branch after the 23-year-old pilot bailed out near Monroe. Richard H. Ledgett of Glen Rock New Jersey was uninjured but shaken as wreckage spread over two acres. The other two training planes landed safely at Memphis and Natchez. Ledgett had radioed fuel shortage and aimed for Monroe Selman field before choosing open country to escape the fire risk.

Resolutions Adopted By Funeral Directors Convention

The 39th annual Louisiana State Funeral Directors Association meeting entered its second day with resolutions adopted by regional associations and the general body. In Monroe 3200 Voters Ineligible Without Registration Return

Approximately 3,200 residents in Ward 3 and Ward 10 of Monroe will be unable to vote this summer unless they return permanent registration blanks within seven weeks.
