Special to News-Star Columbia Iowa April 28 a negro named Joe Johnson was found drowned in the Ouachita river after a dark rainy night. He had attended church and returned home from Riverton where he worked. Citizens rescued the body and a coroner's jury determined the death occurred last Sunday night.

In Collinston Louisiana on Tuesday night Gilbert Thompson. 24, killed his brother David Thompson by mistake while pursuing a thief suspected of stealing corn. The shooting occurred at the elder Thompson’s home as Gilbert fired with a double barreled shotgun at close range. A negro, Robert Scout of Ouachita Parish, was injured elsewhere when he fell under a freight train and suffered severe leg injuries. Dr. Freeman treated him and he was sent to Monroe sanitarium.
Scores of delegates and visitors arrive for the State convention of the Travelers Protective Association in Monroe. Major contingents come from New Iberia Lake Charles Baton Rouge Alexandria New Orleans and Shreveport. President Perry C Doerr travels from New Orleans. Local post members host events in City Hall and at the Monroe hotel luncheon Elk's Club dance and reception planned with more entertainment tomorrow. The Louisiana division anticipates a record attendance.
