Griffin Named Chairman of River Group
Howard Griffin president of Howard Griffin Inc has been selected chairman of the River Water committee of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Garland Shell announced. Griffin is a Ouachita Port Commissioner Monroe Chamber director United Givers Association YMCA board member and church steward born in Kentucky he moved to Monroe in 1913. He started a boat business in 1931 and has raced boats on the Ouachita and in the Vicksburg to St Louis Regatta with high speed rigs.

Two Burglaries Probed by Ouachita Sheriff
Ouachita parish sheriff investigates two burglaries in opposite areas. Central High School in Calhoun was entered and loot partly taken from vending machines and a pay phone. A Little Club break in south of Monroe yielded unclear losses.

Martin Infant Funeral Today
Graveside services for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor L. Martin of Monroe are set for 4 p.m. at Brownlee Cemetery near Calhoun. The Rev. Edgar Wiggins of Highland Park Baptist Church will officiate. Interment is by Kilpatrick's Funeral Home of West Monroe. Survivors include two sisters Donna and Vickilyn, a brother Danny, paternal grandmother Mrs. Alfred Bagwell of Calhoun, and maternal grandmother Mrs. Frank Russell of Monroe.

Theft of Mail Charge Filed in Ouachita Parish Jail
Odis Spears, a Monroe man, is jailed in Ouachita parish on a federal theft of mail charge. He could not meet the $1,500 bond set after a hearing before the U S Commissioner and awaits arraignment in federal court. Spears was apprehended late yesterday on the charge.

Drivers License Office Enlarged in West Monroe
J. O. Fleming, West Monroe water and sewer superintendent, announced that the West Monroe sub station of the Louisiana Rivers License Division is undergoing renovation and enlargement. The site at the Old West Monroe City Hall Building will accommodate more driver tests due to rising demand.

Senior Awards Day at Ouachita High Highlights Student Honors
The Ouachita Parish High School auditorium hosted Senior Awards Day on April 26 with DeLane Cooper serving as mistress of ceremonies. Milton Platt presented an original painting to I. C. Strickland, principal, as the seniors gift to the school, and Frank Swindle and Grace Cascio unveiled a portrait of Strickland honoring his years of service. Seniors received awards for achievement across academics, business education, shorthand, and music, including DAR Good Citizen Grace Cascio and the Leadership honors for John Dowd and others. The Boys Quartet and ensembles earned superior ratings at the Northeast State College District Music Festival, with the choir and Mixed Ensemble sweeping Sweepstakes trophies. The Distributive Education Club was named Louisiana’s Best Club of the Year 1960-61, earning a Chicago trip. Additional recognitions included poetry, science, YMCA awards, and numerous individual commendations among a long list of seniors.
