Bish Mathis institute to open Monroe branch June 7
Bish S. Mathis announces plans for a Monroe business college occupying the top floor of the Bernhardt building. The remodel will cost over 40000 dollars and serve about 250 students from north Louisiana south Arkansas and west Mississippi. Mathis will supervise Longview operations while his brother L E Mathis directs Monroe.

Date Set for Cotton Meet at Bolton High School
Mark W. Stroud announced the Louisiana Cotton Cooperative membership meeting will be May 10 at Bolton High School auditorium Alexandria starting 10 a.m. The central location aims to draw many members and farmers to hear national experts on cotton and farm trends. The 19 member Louisiana unit has averaged over 7,500 bales yearly, with state membership over 40,000. the association is affiliated with the American Cotton Cooperative in New Orleans. Stroud invites attendance via automobile caravans and asks interested farmers to contact the local classing office.

Lottery Operating Charge Filed Against Singley
Walter C. Singley of 212 Forrest Avenue was arrested by the sheriff on a charge of operating a lottery and released on $1,000 bond. He reportedly owned several slot machines. Less Montary, 22, a Illinois native living in Monroe six months, is jailed in Ouachita parish on entering a house at Columbia and stealing a pistol later tried in Caldwell parish. Charlie Smith, a Monroe resident, is jailed in Ouachita parish on a forgery charge for a check for $8 drawn on the parish welfare department.

City Court Fines Arrested Drunk Driver and Larceny Suspect
Archie Davis was fined $100 by Judge W. M. Harper after an arrest early Sunday for driving while intoxicated. William Murphy received a 90 day jail term for larceny of clothing valued at $7.50 from Glen weapon. a knife was fined $12.50.
