In New Orleans on April 26 prices slid from session highs as speculative buying waned. May to October contracts fell from 21.03 20.86, 20.75 20.62, 20.45 20.31 with exports at 13,816 bales and spot cotton closing 28 points higher at 20.58. Receipts and stock totals were reported at 20.86 and 51,977 respectively.
The cotton market in New York showed firmer activity on April 26 as fear of south weather boosted demand. May contracts reached 21.26 and October 20.52, up 46 to 53 points, with later prices giving back 7 to 15 points before futures closed 25 to 34 points higher and spot steady at middling 21.60.
In New Orleans on April 26 cotton sold about 3 cents per bale higher with May futures at 21 cents in both markets and July above it in New York. Speculation widens amid European interest and fear of recurring bad weather. Traders cite weather, delayed planting, replanting needs, and seed shortages as pressures, with expectations of further price gains.
Hogs 26,000 head with market steady to higher on Wednesday, top 12.60 for choice 190-219 lb. Cattle 13,000, calves 7,090. steers and yearlings mostly steady, cows steady to 5¢. light yearlings active. Sheep 12,000 fat lambs unevenly strong up to 25¢, ewes scarce. lambs and lamb weights shown at 15.75 to 16.75 for various lots.
Liverpool reports firmer futures and higher spot prices with American cotton leading gains. Prices listed for several grades show increases with May at 11?66 and July at 10.88 as futures close firm. Sales reach 80 bales and receipts total 25,090 with 24,300 American.
New York April 26 Liberty bonds closed with varied results across issues. LisSexty 31-2 at 101.10 and Liberty 1st 11-d8 at 1201.30 contrasted with Liberty 8rd 41-43 at 100.83. Liberty ith di-d4s at 162.23 and Treasury 44-45 at 114.24.
Call money and loans steady at 5 with closing bids at 5. Goléans show firmer, mixed collateral. Short-term notes quoted at 5s for 4-6 months with prime paper around 41-4 and 1-2.

Chicago market notes show varied poultry receipts with 5 cars fowls priced 25 1 2 to 27, broilers 82 45, turkeys 20 10, roosters 16, ducks 20 24, spring ducks 30, geese 14. Alive weak bids imply sluggish demand across species.

William L. Stephens aged 75 died yesterday at his home 606 Cypress Street West Monroe. A native of Alabama he lived in West Monroe thirty years. Survived by widow one daughter Mrs J B Brown Calhoun and a niece in Long Beach California. Member First Baptist Church West Monroe. Funeral planned this afternoon at 3 at the family home with interment at Riverview Burial Park.
