Baton Rouge April 26 The La alle Fire Insurance Company of New Orleans has filed with the secretary of state its increase in capitalization. The new capitalization is 645,936. Wanda Elaine Stopa a Polish immigrant who became a noted lawyer died by self- poisoning in a Detroit hotel room after Chicago police pursued her in connection with the slaying of Henry Manning a caretaker at Y Kenley Smith's home Manning was killed when he tried to protect Mrs Smith A hotel guest reported seeing Stopa writing to Mrs Inez Stopa and identifying her as Glasgow police found a poison bottle and a letter signed Ken ley in her room The coroner noted she had no baggage besides a small bag and an address book listing prominent New York writers and artists

Police increase protection for six Italians condemned to die May 9 for murder. Three men loitering near the parish jail with relatives were detained. a stolen car was found in the possession of one of them.
The body of Charles Francis Murphy lies in state at his East Seventeenth Street home as city flags fly at half mast. Mourning spreads through Tammany halls and streets as leaders and faithful gather to discuss succession amid funeral plans.
Baton Rouge High School led with 39 points at the state rally track meet won by Baton Rouge High. Warren Easton placed second with 24 points and Merryville third with 16. Final rounds in debating and declamation produced multiple individual firsts across boys and girls events with winners from Winnfield, Welsh, Olton, Ponchatoula, Jonesville, Baton Rouge High, and others.
Police search for Eddie Onellion a 16 year old West Monroe boy reported missing by his father L A Onellion. He was last seen Thursday morning at West Monroe School wearing a scout uniform apart from his blue striped shirt. He stands about five feet tall weighs 95 pounds and was seen on South Grand Street at about 11 am heading south. Information to police or Mr Onellion.
Huey P. Long announced after inspecting the Louisiana Railway and Navigation Company line from Shreveport to Baton Rouge that the railroad must file plans for improvements. He said new rails and ties are needed and bridging the Red River and a remedy for the Mississippi river crossing delays must be proposed. The PSC believes the road is in dangerous condition and will require action within a short time.
Monroe judge David Newton Thompson announces candidacy to replace Justice Ben C. Dawkins on the Louisiana Supreme Court. Expected no opposition as Thompson, 64, holds long judiciary tenure since 1881 and has served in various posts including district attorney and court of appeals. Judge J B Crow hints at entering race as well.
President Coolidge has forwarded the name of Justice Benjamin C. Dawkins of Monroe for federal judge of the Western District of Louisiana. Dawkins, born 1881 in Union parish, has served on Louisiana Supreme Court since 1922 and as senior associate justice. he expects to assume the post in about three weeks.
In New Orleans on April 26 six Italians sentenced to die for murder seek mercy from Washington. Italian ambassador Caetani has not secured Parker clemency and may appeal to Secretary Hughes with hopes of presidential intervention looming amid memories of 1891 lynchings.
Mr. W. E. Neill, preacher of Operator, sells Gulf Refining Company forty acre leases in a drilling block near Riverton Caldwell parish about twenty miles south of Monroe. Gulf geologist reports favorable structure and location. Neill and associates predict a future oil field with gas and oil shows observed so far.

Boston of New York will speak on Constitutional Liberty and Lindley M. Garrison, a Wilson cabinet member, is a close associate. The senate committee inquiry into naval oil leases drew protests from W. W. Westerfield. Ventress J. Smith of New Iberia is expected to be elected president with promotion for the sixth district vice president.
New Orleans reports indicate Frank O'Donnell a state legislator from the Fifteenth Ward cut his throat with a razor and died in the W H Ward Company yards. A former Southern conductor he was noted in union labor circles and survived by his widow and five children.

Former interior official Washington April R Garfield told the Shoals hearing that the Ford bid to develop Muscle Shoals would exploit national resources for private gain. He urged power distribution under the Federal Waterpower Act with government return after lease and warned against a “great power trust” that would bind the South to the Shoals operator.
The court dismissed the murder case in Hahnville St. Charles parish after rejecting the confession of Thomas Pickelheimer. The jury had returned a not guilty verdict for defendants Joseph Maes Robert Cook and Harry Hayden. Bentley, a detective during the local electricians strike, was lured to the Mississippi levee and killed.
Georgie Keithley 26 fired six shots at her sweetheart Art Hayes 26 and another woman Margie Welch 18 at a Bucktown cabaret. Hayes wounded by three bullets and hospitalized. Keithley fled dropping her revolver in a sewer and was arrested on shooting with intent to kill.
