In St. Joseph Louisiana on April 2 defense argued for a change of venue for Orpha Nowell and her two daughters Ruby and Helen in the murder trial of their husband James A. Nowell. The judge overruled the motion to quash the indictment and the special venue request. The trial could proceed Wednesday with 130 jurors summoned for selection barring a further ruling. The Nowells were moved from Winnsboro after James Nowell died January 24 at Steep Bayou Clayton under unclear circumstances.

Orville J. Taylor, president of Chicago's board of education, said on April 25 that schools would close within two to three weeks unless teachers are paid. Officers and a large armed citizen force hunted Click Herren 35 after he shot and killed John Beasly 37, pool hall operator, in Jonesboro Louisiana. The posse pursued Herren his wife and an unidentified male companion across surrounding territory with a swamp search yielding no trace.
Texas representative Gordon Burns of Huntsville was hospitalized Tuesday after a hotel fight in which several people joined an argument sparked by his debate in the house over a bill to replace the railroad commission with a new oil and gas administrator group.
Representative Smith of Virginia says he would seek impeachment of Federal Judge James A. Lowell over a habeas corpus ruling freeing George Crawford, a Negro sought in Virginia for murder. Smith argues Lowell insulted Virginia and plans to study grounds before raising the issue with the judiciary committee.
West side planters appealed to Governor Conner to keep National Guard patrols along the swollen Yazoo river after a dynamited levee incident in Tallahatchie county. Troops were to remain to prevent friction with east side forces as private guards under Sheriff John D. Purvis would take over later. Gunfire between guardsmen and rival planters had occurred for several nights.

A milk truck owned by Joe Renwick driven by Wesley Webb and a fishing party car from Dubach and Hico collided on DeSiard road near Burgess filling station at 5:45 am. Webb and Bar tow Gray suffered the most serious injuries with knee fractures. Will Tubbs had a severe scalp wound. Mrs. Bartow Gray and Mrs. W. Gray were also injured. Tubbs was unconscious and needed many stitches.

She says she hopes to use the loan to protect her children's estate and the Washington Post as their heritage.

New Orleans April 25 John D O Keefe president of both Whitney National Bank and Whitney Trust and Savings company announced plans to merge the two institutions into one national bank. Whitney National would absorb all assets and liabilities and gain trust and savings powers. New directors for the National Bank of Commerce include Oliver G Lucas as president A D Geoghegan as chairman Clay W Beckner as executive vice president and Dale Graham as cashier.
