Colonel Relieved Of Command For Flight Bumping
TOKYO UPI The Air Force reprimanded Lt Col Charles H Platt Jr and relieved him of command of the Air Terminal Squadron Tachikawa for his role in bumping seven enlisted men en route to the United States on emergency leave. He forfeited half a month salary 340 dollars and is transferred. Enlisted men say Platt ordered them off so he and his family could take a Hawaiian vacation. The Air Force said evidence does not support that he acted to bump emergency leave passengers but he contributed to the confusion causing the administrative error.

Ex-Resident of Houma in Lafayette Jail Suicide
Arnold Duplantis a 45 year old Beaumont Texas resident and former Houma Louisiana resident hanged himself in his Lafayette parish jail cell after being held for mental observation. He had been arrested at a Lafayette bus station for acting strangely and transferred to jail Wednesday night. He was found by a trusty after breakfast with a bedsheet tied around his neck. Coroner Dr Henry Voorhies ruled the death a death by own action.

Second Underpass Planned for South 2nd Street
Final approval for the South 2nd Street underpass was granted with engineering studies for a second underpass north of DeSiard Street. Highway Director Richardson announced a mid June timetable for the South 2nd underpass beneath the Missouri Pacific tracks and studies to locate the Illinois Central underpass north of DeSiard. He hopes for Legislature funding in May and notes city officials support the location.
