The Monroe and West Monroe Chamber of Commerce and leaders led by W. L. Ethridge thank those who provided automobiles for four conventions this month. If overruled, an appeal to the supreme court is expected. Hays will be moved to Bastrop for the hearing and potential gallows sentence by Judge Percy Sandel. Defense attorneys claim juror decision against law, duress on the first confession, and improper testimony from Willie Stone.
France submitted a fresh proposal to settle its 4 billion dollar war debt. Ambassador Berenger presented to the American debt commission, speaking in French while translations were provided. The commission would reconvene tomorrow to decide.
Monroe completes the fifth convention for April as the Louisiana Bankers Association adjourns. Two more conventions follow this month, including the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods on April 27–28 sponsored by Temple B nai Israel. Delegates from New Orleans and several cities may exceed 300. insurance adjusters meet April 29 to 30.
Washington April 23 The house agriculture committee votes to amend the Haugen farm relief bill by deferring two years the equalization fee on basic commodities to stabilize prices. The revolving fund rises to 250 million dollars and, after two years, the fee would apply to first sales of wheat cotton corn and swine. The panel also reported Curtis Aswell commodity marketing and Tincher credit bills.
Judge J D Nix of New Orleans urged officials to keep youths at the Louisiana Training Institute in Monroe until parole is approved. Commissioners Habans and Hall praised the institute and urged adopting its ideas locally as Monroe and New Orleans leaders discussed Child welfare and gas piping plans.
Judge John D. Nix of the Juvenile Court of New Orleans was the guest of honor at a Kiwanis club luncheon held this noon, a familiar figure in the city.
David L Marshall, convicted of second degree murder for the Anna May Dietrich case, was denied a new trial and given a ten to twenty year sentence at Eastern State penitentiary. He remained calm as the ruling was announced.

In Helena Arkansas Cassie Mary Warren 17 is dead and Mrs G H Vaughan 20 years older is held on murder charges after shooting Warren in a crowded Helena store where she worked. Vaughan’s husband says she is mentally unfit and notes she has previously attempted to kill him and suffered derangement. Warren died hours after wounding.
Franklin parish grand jury meets in special session to probe the shooting death of W. D. Barlow a Gilbert La blacksmith killed in his shop. Ellis Andrews a 20 year old farmer is held after the late Saturday incident and charged as the shooter according to Sheriff E J Short.

The senate elections committee unanimously threw out the election contest against Senator Statton a Democrat of New Mexico filed by former Senator Mureum a Republican. The committee found no evidence to prove any count and will report to the Senate next week with expectations of acceptance.
Chauncey M. Depew, 92, marks his birthday with a privately printed book “Marching On” and a belief he will reach 100. The New York Central board chairman maintains office hours and follows simple rules to stay hopeful and cheerful.
Shreveport Louisiana April 23 The John son City Tennessee police chief told the Shreveport Journal by long distance phone he had not arrested Green C. Chandler 25 a prominent Shreveport man and a fugitive on a statutory attack charge Chandler may have been captured at Jackson Dyson Louisville or Union City but no word has come from those places A reward of 1000 is offered for his arrest.
