Slight damage reported in a two car crash at Jackson and Grammont street this afternoon. A Nash sedan driven by Mrs. Clark Faulk struck a Chevrolet touring car said to be driven by Mrs. H. I. Payne of Fairbanks. No injuries were reported. Nash rear wheel and fenders damaged.
In East Baton Rouge Parish widow April S. Day defeats Dr Ed You for sheriff as the Democratic committee fills the vacancy left by a former sheriff. Across the state Louisiana votes reflect Democratic strength with Henry L. Fuqua poised to become governor and Republicans fielding ticket for three offices. Shreveport records a large turnout on a referendum to buy a site for a municipal auditorium with local preference settled on a Grand Avenue location.
About 1,200 votes were cast in Ouachita Parish in the general election. Parish registrar George Phillips reports all nominees won in contested police juror races though some margins were close. Results listed by ward show nominees defeating independents in Ward Nine Ward Six and Ward Two with specific vote tallies.
Will Myles, a Black man, was arrested last night by deputy sheriffs and charged with illegal possession of intoxicating liquor. He is jailed awaiting bond fixing in the parish jail.
