The House approved a presidential campaign publicity bill aimed at Republican funds in the Roosevelt Taft contest. It would require full itemized disclosures of all money and pledges by candidates and campaign managers before and after primaries and elections. Republicans derided the measure as crude and ineffective but backed amendments strengthening reporting.

The weather bureau bulletin forecasts normal to below normal temperatures in the Southern and Eastern States this week with frosts in the middle west Rocky Mountain and plateau regions. unsettled conditions bring widespread precipitation as disturbances travel from the plains to the St Lawrence valley and then toward the Eastern States with rains and cooler air.
A cyclone struck mining towns Adamsville Pinckney City Jugtown Brookside and surrounding areas. Early reports indicate twelve to fifteen fatalities and several injuries with twenty houses destroyed at Brookside. Downed wires hinder details as authorities monitor rising river levels and flood impacts.
A tornado swept across Illinois and Indiana killing at least 35 people and injuring about 200. Bush in Williamson County suffered widespread destruction with 18 dead and 40 injured. Moroco Indiana reported 9 deaths, Campus 3 dead, and Willisville 5 dead as homes collapsed and power lines fell.
The passenger steamer Cretan, en route from Jacksonville to Baltimore, moved slowly up the coast after damage above the water line from a fog collision with the Clyde liner Irquois off Cape Hatteras. The Irquois was damaged and continued to Charleston, while the Cretan declined aid from the City of Montgomery.
Seventeen persons believed killed as multiple tornadoes hit northern Murphysboro Illinois and surrounding towns including Reddick Dwight Odell and Mason City. At least eight more injured, with Mrs. Geo King and family among the seriously hurt, and Nelson Hulze and family killed in Reddick.
The Ouachita river remains steady in Monroe with only a slight rise since Saturday. Noon gauge shows a stage of 46.212 with no unfavorable conditions reported.
MO. E. MORRIS notes the Ouachita river reached 48 feet 6 inches above low water at Trenton on April 24, 1874, with a comparison to April 22 readings and to 1882 conditions. He warns that floods from Possum Fork or Red Fork could swamp the area if waters rise, and discusses grade measurements from his elevator track.

Ten deaths reported mainly African American residents. rescue crews struggle to reach interior areas and rail lines suffer extensive damage. Washington April 22 Vice President Franklin of the White Star Line testified before the Senate committee probing the Titanic disaster. He said he did not know who in New York sent a telegram claiming all aboard were safe and that he learned of the sinking after 6 pm Monday, while urging AP to delay initial reports to avoid alarm.
The Gentry Brothers' Show came to Monroe today drawing a large crowd. A 10 30 parade impressed onlookers as horses and cages were groomed and uniforms refreshed. Children and adults enjoyed the many animals while schools grant a half holiday for the event. Evening performance begins at 7 30.
