U S and allied leaders voiced concern over a possible large scale North Vietnamese invasion of South Vietnam. Secretary of State Rusk told foreign ministers that four divisions north of the demilitarized zone heighten danger as rains approach.
U S Skyraider engaged in one of the war's largest air battles over North Vietnam. A propeller driven Skyraider protecting a downed F105 crew was shot down by a Communist MIG 17. One MIG was shot down and four others likely fell. F105s based in Thailand attacked Xuan Mai district near Hanoi when hit by ground fire.
The second round of the $100,000 Greater Dallas Open was postponed due to rain and will be played Saturday with the event extended to Monday. Arnold Palmer, who shot 76 in Thursday's first round and fell to six over par, asked to withdraw due to illness and was granted permission.

P. A. Poag retired secretary treasurer of Monroe for over 40 years died early today at St. Francis Hospital at age 80 after a brief illness. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at First Methodist Church in Monroe. Burial Riverview Cemetery. He lived in Monroe since 1909 after moving from Dallas and served as comptroller before retirement. He was a Lions Club member and father of P. A. Poag Jr. and Mrs. Margaret P. Jacobs.
Baton Rouge AP reports Louisiana AFL CIO president Bussie predicts passage of a local-option urban renewal law at the May fiscal session. He says it will pass if tied to local approval and notes three-fourths legislative vote needed for non fiscal matters. Cities seek bills to attract federal funds via local acts.
The Monroe area expects partly cloudy skies through Saturday with a 50 percent chance of rain this afternoon and 40 percent at other times. Highs reach 78 to 84 while low temperatures fall to 62 to 68. Winds from the south at 8 to 16 mph, becoming variable 5 to 15 mph late tonight and Saturday.
Pasadena AP report says Surveyor 3 extended its tubular arm at 4 56 a m EST in two second steps to study the moon surface. Controllers halted operations before 6 a m EST as Goldstone view faded and will resume as moon rises. A trench test and soil photo are planned, with prior concerns about power drain and heaters off exposing the scoop to minus 90 degrees.
Saigon reports Radio Hanoi rejected an American plan to create a 26 mile demilitarized zone between North and South Vietnam. Sources say the North Vietnamese called the move a suspicious proposal and accused the U S of violating the 17th parallel DMZ. The stance was attributed to statements by the North Vietnamese foreign minister.
In Neuilly-sur-Seine, Gaullist Rene Ribiere and Mayor Gaston Defferre dueled with swords for four minutes after Defferre called him an idiot in the National Assembly. Ribiere was scratched twice on the right arm but the fight ended with embraces between seconds. Ribiere, engaged to Claudia Carte, claimed the duel showed Socialists cannot insult deputies without risk.
In Rome AP reports the Greek army, under King Constantine, took control to form a new government amid arrests of leftist Papandreou followers and a curfew. A cabinet was to be sworn in, elections remain slated for May 28, and a crackdown on dissent was imposed.
The Chicago Tribune reports the Johnson administration asked U S drug makers to supply medicine to Red China to combat famine and disease. A hush hush Commerce Department meeting with 25 government officials and 25 industry reps discussed easing the drug embargo for shipments.
