Ouachita parish delegates urge immediate steps to create City of Monroe School District No 2 under parish control while completing existing city schools. City board to sit with parish board for four-year terms. Neville to lead district with Heyes as principal and current teachers retained.
Baton Rouge April 21 Sup t Brown expresses satisfaction with the settlement of the Monroe school problem praising the fair concessions by both sides and urging residents to unite for completing two new school buildings. Ouachita delegates Capt Scholars and Colonel Stubbs receive backing for their efforts and full authority with approval from city and parish leaders. Washington Mellon names David H Blair as commissioner of internal revenue while Brand and Lloyd George plan private Hythe meeting next Sunday with one secretary per side.
Mrs Sophie Wunsch Kennedy and other heirs of William Wunsch sold to S B DeLee the south half of lot two block D of the Stubbs Railroad addition fronting Sixth street for 3000 dollars. William D McIntosh sold to Mrs Maggie Smith a lot in Trenton south of Jackson street for 248 40. Several thousand dollars of building permits issued in recent days. Charles M Mitchell secured permit to build on Railroad avenue between Pearl and Plum streets Joe Jackob will build on Grammont street and Frank Along on Lee avenue.
Special to Monroe News-Star reports Columbia April 21. In a special primary election held Tuesday to nominate a clerk for the Thirteenth District Court to replace the late S. P. Walker Mrs Aline Walker and M L Mecom contended with Mecom winning by seventy nine votes. Weather was mild though farmers absent due to rains and female voter turnout was uncertain. A cold spell followed Sunday night with further rain likely in the coming days.
Four men and four women were detained today by federal agents as part of the investigation into the Toledo post office robbery on February 17, a heist valued at about one million dollars.

Minnie Phillips and Carrie Washington, two Negro women, go on trial in criminal court for allegedly carving two other Black women. The offenses occurred last year and were carried over to this term. Also on docket, George Lee faces embezzlement charges and Mose Mays will be tried for burglary and theft at Monroe’s Chinese restaurant. Arthur Walker pleads not guilty to stealing a skiff and gun and awaits Saturday trial. he admits desertion from the army and may be turned to Camp Pike authorities.
Lonnie Eaton, who faced execution for Ouachita parish murder, had his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment by the State Pardon Board. Reports from Baton Rouge quoted authorities confirming the action occurred yesterday.
The Monroe Rotary Club marked the transition from E. K. Means to new president Ty Cobb at a luncheon. Means praised the club power of comradeship and asked for continued service while Cobb accepted the role and joked about church service. A wounded Marine and former president W. H. Taft were among the speakers, with coverage continued on page three.
