In Washington on April 20 leaders from both sides in the supreme court reorganization debate claim gains after the Wagner act ruling. Senator Burke says eight or ten more votes may oppose the Roosevelt plan to add six justices unless old age retirements cut the pool, while Senator Ashurst says the decision greatly helps passage in judiciary. The hearing nears its end as the committee reviews the Wagner act's implications.

Weather bureau issued small craft warnings for the Texas coast from Brownsville to Port Arthur. Strong southerly winds expected this afternoon with gusts to come and go, beginning at 8 30 am central standard time.
Lieutenant Commissioner and Mrs. Ernest I. Pugmire of Atlanta head Salvation Army work in 15 southern states and led a Monroe stop during a Louisiana tour. Major Herbert Bartlett and Mrs. Bartlett of New Orleans joined, along with Major Sidney Cox and Adjutant Kenneth Howarth. The Salvation Army band from Shreveport accompanied the group to Monroe. Commissioner Pugmire spoke at a Lions Club luncheon at Hotel Frances.
The Seven Seas Spray, escorted by a war vessel, attempted to reach Bilbao to demonstrate food deliveries possible to the besieged city. Insurgent actions included seizure of ships carrying arms while four nations patrol the area and Bordeaux ports await further orders.
A 23 year old man in a gray suit abducted five year old LeRoy Gardner but released him after five hours. William Blodgett II and LeRoy Gardner III reported a smiling suspect who left a note claiming he would go straight and asking to be contacted as Chuck in Wednesday's Oakland Tribune. The sheriff’s office sought the conscience stricken kidnapper after the park incident and named Berkele y as the boy’s parents location.
Robert Wadlow, 19, of Alton Illinois, at eight feet five inches and nearly 500 pounds, was declared a normal individual in many respects but showing pituitary overactivity. Doctors called him an ideal subject to study growth hormone, noting his potential to reach over nine feet. The report came from Barnes Hospital in St. Louis while Wadlow was examined in a clinic for the American College of Physicians.

Clark Gable testified as witness No 1 in the mail fraud case against Violet Wells Norton who seeks to prove paternity of her 13 year old daughter. Mae West testified as witness No 2 about letters to Gable offering a film opportunity for the child. Prosecutor Powell presented Portland residents, a radio commentator, and a publicity man as supporting witnesses.
Allen D. Boggs 53 wealthy former army officer is arraigned on murder charges in Santa Cruz for the shooting death of his wife Sally Boggs 37. District Attorney Benjamin Knight says it was premeditated and seeks the death penalty. Boggs defense plans an unwritten law claim and insanity plea. The shooting occurred Saturday night in a friend's home bedroom.
Louisiana Credit Men's association officers to be elected and convention city chosen as two day meeting winds down at Hotel Frances Cher okee terrace. Morning session led by Miss Marion Brooks heard talks on Louisiana Business Review purposes and methods, active membership, credit luncheons and credit bureau loan departments with speakers from LSU Baton Rouge New Orleans Retail Credit Association Arkansas Fuel Oil Shreveport and Fort Worth Retail Merchants.
Baton Rouge April 7. Dr. James Monroe Smith president of Louisiana State University announced acceptance of an invitation to address the congress on French American affairs in Paris this summer. He will deliver a paper on Higher Education in the United States. The trip is set for June 2 to July and will end about August 1. Mrs. Smith will accompany him and they will sail from New York in early June. He plans to visit universities in England and on the continent while away.
A federal report shows presidential allocations to Louisiana from 1935 to 1939 relief acts totaling 77,805,247.38 as of March 31, 1937, with 10,261,000 unexpended. Allocations span Agriculture, Commerce, Interior, Labor, Navy, Treasury, War, Emergency conservation and related programs.
Governor Richard W. Leche spoke at a labor rally advocating President Roosevelt’s supreme court reorganization plan. He argued the constitution has been a tool for the powerful and contrasted federal aid to corporations with aid to the poor. Other speakers included Richard Duncan, William J. Guste, and Manfred Willmer, all endorsing the reform.
