An Associated Press report from Berne and London describes a submarine attack on a Norwegian steamer and its life boats. Four were killed as lifeboats were lowered and the attackers looted the ship. The Norwegan captain Blomvaag confirmed the incident and casualties.
The French advance continued with gains near La Fereux and Laon area lines, capturing trenches near Loivre. German counterattacks were repelled and heavy losses inflicted. British forces also advanced near Villers Guislain between St Quentin and Cambrai.
French operations along the Hindenburg Line report continued crumbling of German defenses from Sesson to Champrane and captures of trenches men and guns. Robert Coupland of New Orleans has been selected by the Episcopal Diocesan Convention to become bishop of Atlanta succeeding the late Bishop Nelson. The appointment covers Atlanta and Macon areas and follows the late bishop’s tenure.
William May and two sons were charged with the murder of Luther Burden near White's Ferry. A district court jury convicted May of murder with no capital punishment after six hours deliberation. May awaits transfer for safety. his sons fled the country. Burden served in Company D of the First Louisiana Infantry and was well regarded by his unit.
Discharges from the National Guard will not be granted enlisted men solely because they are married. Soldiers with independent means preventing the family from becoming a government charge will not be mustered out. Many guardsmen have been discharged against their wishes because they were married.

Washington April 26 conferees on the administration war loan bill failed to reach agreement and will resume talks today. Minor points were polished but disputes remained on money deposits and related provisions as both chambers had smoothed most differences.

The closing session of the Louisiana Sunday School Association convention at Monroe elected D. M. Pipes as president with Van Carter named general secretary. Other officers include Wilbur Whitfield and W. K. Wingfield as vice presidents and W. W. Williams as convention secretary.
