April 19 dispatch reports large detachments of government forces including international brigade units captured south of Tortosa after bridges over the Ebro were blown. In Jonesboro, La a daughter was born April 12 to R N Leckie and wife named Betty Lulu Leckie. Another couple J F Weeks welcomed a daughter April 14 named Thresa Janette Weeks.
John F. Dore, 56, longtime Seattle mayor during two turbulent terms, died last night just before his second term ended. Ill since February, he delivered only three speeches before the March primaries and suffered a heated clash with labor and political rivals during his career as a criminal attorney.
A group of robbers held up the America Wine Company office on Elmer Fields avenue in New Orleans and escaped with 219. The holed up two employees, Joseph G Chetia treasurer and Nace Beene keeper, witnessed the theft. The satchel carried 1400 dollars in money and 700 dollars in checks. The robbers drove away in an automobile.
The Atlanta city council refused to adopt a proposal by Connellman Belens to require awnings to swing seven feet above sidewalks. Extra tall men argued the sun would ruin goods in show windows, while others said awnings shade windows and should be kept lower.

Jonesboro Louisiana April 19 Mrs Juanita Hoge pleaded guilty to the slaying of her father Lee Willis a farmer near Old Vernon. Judge Winberly sentenced her to six years and eight months in the Louisiana penitentiary after a two day trial to select a jury.
A windstorm from Monday morning caused considerable damage in the Ferriday region after heavy rain. Trees were uprooted in Jonesville Catahoula Parish and in St Joseph Tensas Parish with houses and fences damaged in those areas. Ferriday itself saw mainly blown trees and fences. Cooler weather and downpours followed the storm.
Funeral services were held in Palestine church for 11 month old Quinton M. Bailey with Rev. Gates officiating. Ada Fitzgerald 70, also buried from old Union church with Rev. Wall officiating. survivors include spouse, siblings, and in laws. Clayton Greer 85 died at his nephew’s home. service at Longstraw church followed by burial in Longstraw cemetery. He was born in Cleborn county Alabama and never married.
Infant son of Mr and Mrs W H Fortenberry died shortly after birth in a local hospital Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held that afternoon with Rev Keyes of Baskin officiating and interment in a Baskin area cemetery.

M. Averette, with pallbearers including Robert Taliaferro and John Taliaferro. Survived by wife Daisy Taliaferro and three children, plus a sister.
Miss Geraldine Kemp of Choudrant and T A Woodward of Ruston wed April 1 in Spring at Rev Robert Bozeman's home. Both ex Louisiana Tech students plan Cotton Valley residence where Woodward works for Gulf Public Service. Broadway specialty dancer 4 Thals Giroux, 2, died after plunging from a fifth floor hotel room in New York. Friend John Stoppell, 20, was questioned then released as investigators classify the death as suicide after Giroux said she was tired of it all.
