Allied forces in Lorraine secure key sector operations with Americans assisting French troops. The joint effort aims to stabilize front lines and push toward strategic objectives as troops hold no man’s land.
American forces aided French troops in Lorraine driving Germans from trenches in two assaults within twenty four hours. An American company led by its captain went over the top under heavy fire, inflicting heavy losses on the German defense. A lieutenant and his party also penetrated to the German third line mapping machine gun posts.
Allied reports from the Lys front say British forces held positions south and southwest of Ypres and retook Meteren and Wytschaete after heavy German assaults. Berlin claims Polecapile and Langemarck fallen, while London notes British retirements in the Ypres salient.
A State Department report says the Central powers plan to turn Ukraine into an Austro German colony by dissolving the Rada and appointing an Austro German government. Communication between Ukraine and Russia has been cut and native officials replaced.
Associated Press reports renewed heavy German bombardment along the British front from Laassee canal at Givenchy to Nieppe forest as they press toward Bethune. The fighting extended between Locon and Robeck with shelling, and German attacks on the Yser front near Langemarck and Kippe were repulsed with Belgian forces gaining some ground. Paris reports German detachments failing to breach the Aisne front near Corbeny and raids on the Champagne sector and Meuse near Damlo up repulsed. General Maurice reports improved news after a heavy withdrawal at Ypres and Bailleul. He notes German pressure, 126 divisions engaged since March 21, and allied unity amid a global conflict. In Emporia, Kansas, the Kansas Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teacher Associations holds its annual meeting focusing on wartime education and child training.
Special message from W G McAdoo urges all ministers in the Eleventh Federal District to observe April 21 as Liberty Loan Sunday. It warns of German aims to colonize and control the United States, calling on religious leaders to preach patriotism and defend America’s freedom and religion.

Ronda May Hendricks a white woman employed at Monroe Steam Laundry was arrested at 11 o clock this morning on disloyal utterances against the government The arrest was effected by the American Protective League through Mr Joe Petagna She was released on a five hundred dollar bond signed by G H Cooley proprietor of Monroe Steam Laundry This marks the first such arrest in the parish and is expected to draw wide interest.
