An explosion at the Olin Mathieson Chemical plant in Brandenburg Kentucky injures more than 25 workers. Ten hospitalized none critically hurt. Buildings damaged dozens of fires started. The blast occurred at 5 10 am in the ethylene oxide section causing power outages and window damage in Brandenburg.

SHREVEPORT La AP Fourth district highway engineer E M Gillen is taking a couple days leave today as State Highway Director Ray Burgess reorganizes the district. Gillen is the fifth engineer fired since Friday amid undisclosed irregularities. Brasher lawyer said the full story will shake Baton Rouge. Burgess declined to reveal details saying the federal government asked secrecy. Edwards replaces Gillen temporarily with Baker as Edwards' assistant. In Brooklyn Gregory Heatley eight was stabbed in the chest doused with alcohol and set afire in his home. He died hours later in hospital. Police arrested 32 year old Johnny Cole who admitted stabbing and burning the boy to silence him after the child surprised him prowling in the Heatley residence. The boy’s mother Ellen woke to find her dying son and Coleman was later picked up on the street.
