Two Black patrons attempted to take seats in a reserved section during Holiday on Ice at the Col isum in Jackson Mississippi. Police refused entry after civil rights groups urged cancellation of the engagement at the segregated venue.

Returns filed jointly with wife Shirley, who is not a defendant, show Stratton paid 23,311.83 on unreported income. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years prison and a 40,000 fine. Bond set at 5 dollars. Stratton worked as a TV commentator when charged.
In a Kremlin rally Khrushchev blasted Beijing over actions he called subversive and a threat to world communism. He warned of open conflict, allied Gomulka backed measures, and he pressed for a German treaty and a twenty year Polish Soviet friendship extension.
