J A Ford of Monroe La testified in Texarkana Ark at the Marr trial for misuse of the mails linked to oil field promotion. Ford said Marr invited him after investor interest and that Ford visited El Dorado three times but Marr was too busy or roads poor. Ford invested 150 and reinvested 75 after a 100 percent dividend, receiving no further returns. James Grant of Huntington Ark testified of a 200 investment routed through Detroit with promises of 400 percent and a note from Marr directing remittances to H R Ferrell in Detroit.
At the Philadelphia insanity trial, Harry K Thaw discussed his rabbits Tweedledums and Tootsie and his remarks about visitors at the Pennsylvania Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases. Medical expert Dr C W Mills testified Thaw may still be insane despite prior opinions.
Governor Rodriguez announced a public gambling ban in the northern district of Lower California starting today. Horse races at Tijuana will not be affected, with the edict issued from Mexico City.
Chicago April 15 Swift and Company said they intend to clear themselves of any implication of anti trust violations but have no plan to seek removal of the 1920 consent decree.
Los Angeles reports that police indicate statements from an expressman weaken Mrs. Margaret Willis's claim that she killed Dr. Benjamin Baldwin in self defense by placing his body in a trunk. The expressman says Willis ordered delivery of the trunk around 10 am Friday while Baldwin was alive, challenging her account. A coroner's inquest was held that afternoon.
Washington April 15 President Coolidge urged women to exercise full suffrage at the Third Continental Congress of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He spoke on safeguarding the American system while warning against shifts from constitutional authority. General Pershing, with Jusserand and Howard, stressed citizen training and preparedness.
The British Mexican Petroleum Company owned by shipbuilding interests in Britain is reported to have taken a substantial stake in Lago Petroleum Company, which oversees oil development over more than 2 million acres in Venezuela. Lago Petroleum has also acquired the British Equatorial Company. The British Mexican Petroleum Company was formed in 1919 by its current controllers and Pan American Petroleum and Transport, which sold its interests in 1923.
New Orleans April 15 A clemency request was filed with Governor Parker in Baton Rouge for six men sentenced to death for the Dallas Calmes murder in Independence Louisiana. The plea asks to delay the May 9 execution until the State Pardon Board meets in June and extends the date by sixty days for the appeal.
New York April 15 The preliminary 1923 report for Henry Ford's Detroit Toledo and Ironton railroad shows net income of 1 417 036 compared with a 1 018 742 deficit the year before This equals 17 21 a share on 12 489 948 total stock After four percent dividends both preferred and common share alike Gross revenue reached 10 417 412.
An order for four water wheel driven generators for power production at Muscle Shoals has been placed with General Electric by the United States government. Each turbine will produce 85,000 horsepower, adding to eight previously ordered turbines as part of a 18 unit plant. The complete Muscle Shoals project aims for 630,000 horsepower, rivaling Priest Rapids proposed plant at 700,000 horsepower.
Albany April 15 Alfred E. Smith of New York won from Democratic colleagues in the state the first official recognition of his potential as a Democratic presidential candidate. Former Supreme Court Justice D C Hetrick delivered the keynote at the state convention urging change in measures and personnel to seize the opportunity for service and to preserve representative government.

J W Langley congressman for Kentucky's tenth district will plead not guilty in U S district court Covington to an indictment charging violation of national prohibition law. The three count indictment accuses conspiracy to defraud the government of 17640 in tax by withdrawing 1400 cases of whiskey for medical use later sold for beverage purposes. The other counts allege transport and sale of the liquor.
A tornado in western Mitchell County Georgia on April 15 caused thousands of dollars in timber damage blocked roads ruined crops destroyed four houses and blew down miles of fences. Two persons were seriously injured in the storm near Camilla.
Dr. Earl Edward Busey alias E. E. Hall, held on a mail fraud charge, escaped from Atlanta Federal Prison. He claims to hold the Met Rouge murder key and asserts Watt Daniel was killed by the Ku Klux Klan with Thomas Richards alive and captive. A nationwide search follows as he was reportedly connected to Klan figures including Captain Skipwith.
