Washington April 14. The Library of Congress folklore program gathers wart cures tongue twisters and tall tales from Americans. Dr Duncan Emrich reports rapid submissions by mail with 1000 letters backlogged. Examples include a wart cure with chalk and sacred blessing and a Virginia City ballad about Maggie in the Freckle.

Salvation Army Aids Homeless With Shelter And Food
The transients welfare committee reported for March 158 men were lodged 122 meals were served 78 garments given and 10 wires sent for verification of residences. Eighteen people were transported from Monroe to proven residences. Thirty five women and children received sleeping accommodations and meals at the Salvation Army. They plan to open their own transient lodge to sleep men under supervision.

Back Sales Tax Collection Surpasses Expectations in New Orleans
New Orleans collector of revenue Rufus W. Fontenot reported delinquent sales taxes in New Orleans at three to four million dollars and about eight million statewide. A special 15 deputy squad was sent to New Orleans in March and one month’s collections reached 344,714 in New Orleans and 583,264 statewide. An injunction was obtained against a local businessman to halt operations until taxes are paid.
