House Democrats Reject Immediate Free Sugar in Caucus
Washington April 14 Immediate free sugar was rejected by the House Democratic caucus by a large vote after leaders urged support for President Wilson. The vote keeps the sugar schedule in its three year gradual reduction plan, leaving the exact effective date to future committee action. The Hardwick amendment proposing May 1, 1916, failed 155 to 89.
