Government analysts noted early signs of the anticipated uptick in the second half. First quarter GNP stood at 764.3 billion with a small rise tied to price increases, while consumer spending surged and inventories accumulated sharply, signaling a cautious but hopeful trend.
Judge J Vernon Sims dismissed a preliminary injunction against the Franklin Parish School Board over segregation policies. Plaintiffs led by Shirley J Evans urged ballot relief, but the court ruled no cause or right of action without illegal action by the board. No appeal planned. witnesses but no testimony given.

The images, received in Saigon and Udorn, Thailand, are rushed to Lt Gen William W Momyer to boost bombing accuracy and weather awareness, with rival nations reportedly studying the data as well.
Federal grand jury indicts Bryan Lehmann a former floor leader for Gov Jimmie Davis on five counts of filing false income tax returns for 1960 to 1964. He underreported income by about 80 000 and faces bond terms set by U S District Judge Frederick Hebee. Lehmann from Norco and active in St Charles Parish politics served 1952 to 1964 and chaired administration committees.
Gov. John McKeithen announced a state wide effort to curb air and stream pollution with a three week meeting of leading industrialists to outline plans. New stream standards will be issued by July 1 and air regulations by January 1. He pledged support for needed legislation and funding.
The Twin Cities area expects cloudy to partly cloudy skies today tonight and Friday with widely scattered thundershowers ending Friday. Rain chances about 30 percent today tonight and Friday morning. Winds south 12 to 22 mph. Highs 80 to 86, low 60 to 65. A prior record of 84 was noted for Wednesday. Cloudy conditions persist with FAA record of 32 inches at Selman Field.
A midwest storm battered Arkansas Texas and Kansas with high winds and heavy rain and snow. Four people were injured in Arkansas and a tornado touched down in the southwest. damage included a helicopter training base in Texas.
Vietnamese government troops and a larger Viet Cong force engage near Bac Lieu in the Mekong Delta while 2,000 government troops push across Can Tho area. U.S. casualty figures for last week show 1,345 Americans wounded and 1,478 killed, with Vietnamese losses higher in the north. Two major bridges near Da Nang and Quang Tri were destroyed by Communist action, and eight civilians died in a mortar attack on Quang Tri City.
The U S Weather Bureau issued a severe thunderstorm watch at 11 40 a m for portions of North and Western Louisiana within 50 miles of a Beaumont Texas line and 30 miles northwest of Monroe The threat includes scattered severe storms with large hail and damaging winds from noon to 6 p m Earlier today a watch valid till noon covered Northwestern Louisiana including Winn Jackson Grant Rapides and Caldwell parishes with no major hail wind or rain reported by noon
A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order barring activity by federal voting registrars in three northwest Louisiana parishes. The suit, supported by affidavits from Senators Long and Ellender and Gov. McKeithen, seeks recall of the registrars in Caddo, Bossier, and De Soto Parishes.
Washington reports new limits on Navy shelling of North Vietnam coast. Ships authorized to bombard since Feb. 27 may not shell north of the 20th parallel, keeping fire about 60 miles from Haiphong. Restrictions also bar Air Force and Navy strikes on MIG fields near Hanoi Haiphong and the border buffer zone.
Sen. John L. McClellan charges the Air Force and Navy TFX jets fail to meet Pentagon standards and warns of delays and cost issues. He orders public hearings on the program with no date set, citing lack of knowledge on the aircraft’s final configuration and costs.
William E. Wright age 38 of Monroe Louisiana died early today after falling 15 feet through an open hatch into an empty barge on the Tennessee River near the Hales Bar dam lock. He was a deckman for M M Transportation Company and officials said the hatch top was knocked open when the vessel bumped another barge.
