Aboard the Skipjack seven congressmen are shown on a trial run as the atom submarine dives deeper and faster than any prior sub. Sen Clinton P. Anderson notes depths beyond 400 feet and speeds over 20 knots with the vessel to be commissioned Wednesday.
Alan Robert Nye of Whiting Indiana, a former U S Navy flier, arrived at Midway Airport after a Cuban military tribunal sentenced him to death for conspiring to kill Fidel Castro but suspended the sentence on condition he leave Cuba within 48 hours Nye, who maintained innocence during 106 days in jail, declined to discuss politics or the trial saying he only wants rest and to forget the episode.
A 20 year old Kentwood man was charged with deliberately setting fires that destroyed 680 acres of forest lands east of Tangipahoa. State forester James F. Mixon identified the alleged arsonist as Joe Earl Lebo. The fires occurred March 15 and Lebo is free on a 750 dollar bond set by District Judge Fannie Bureh of Amite. No motive was given.

Edwin W. Niedzielski retired after 41 years with Buick and took home the two ton lathe he used for nearly 30 years. He bought the lathe from Buick for 62 dollars. the firm had paid 3 414.79 dollars for it in 1929. He plans to display the lathe in his garage.

Four families rejoiced as their missing children were located in Colorado Washington Michigan and Ohio over the weekend. In Strongville Ohio Donald L Lutman Jr 11 was found near a drive in theater after his dog Max died from poisoning moments earlier he was well fed and unharmed. Authorities continued searching for another missing Strongsville boy reported Friday.
The United States and Britain urged the Soviet Union to accept a prompt suspension of surface tests, splitting the issue into two parts to seal a quick agreement on bans for surface and atomic tests while leaving higher-altitude and underground blasts for later talks.

The Jasper Texas home office and Monroe Louisiana warehouse remain while 92 stores plus 7 under lease or construction operate in Louisiana Mississippi Arkansas and Texas. Murphy operates 324 stores in 17 states and DC with no current outlets in Morgan and Lindsey regions.
London AP reports Prince Charles, age ten, led his class in math and geography at Cheam School last term. A staff member notes Charles is usually strong in geography but math was not his forte as the term report goes to Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle where the prince is recovering from chicken pox.

Over the weekend at least eight persons died in New Orleans and surrounding areas from drownings and traffic crashes. In New Orleans four fatalities occurred including Mrs. Ionna Klein and her nephew Frank lyn Kucera Jr in a Chef Menteur Highway head on. The crash involved Franklyn Kucera Sr driving the car containing Klein and the boy. Carmella Diaz, 77, also died in a separate collision Sunday.
Winter returns briefly with temps near freezing. Lows tonight expected 36 to 40 degrees, with frost possible in the north. Last night’s low near 40 and daytime high reached about 50 to start, with highs tomorrow around 62.
James Gleason, renowned stage and screen actor, died Sunday night at age 72 after surgery last December. Born May 23, 1886 in New York, he began acting at two months old and later served as a sergeant in the Philippine Insurrection before returning to show business.
Associates of cancer stricken John Foster Dulles said barring a miracle he will resign as secretary of state. Reports from physicians and recent tests at Hobe Sound Florida showed him weaker. President Eisenhower and Allen Dulles visited as talks continued. If resignation occurs Undersecretary Christian Herter would be acting secretary.
Atlantic City AP reports Bowman Gray School of Medicine researchers led by Dr. T B Clarkson found pigeons showing spontaneous atherosclerosis, offering a potentially inexpensive natural animal model for the study of atherosclerosis and its role in heart attacks and strokes.
Connie Nicholas insisted Forrest Teel was accidentally shot during a struggle in his car as the murder trial nears verdict. Deputy prosecutor Francis Thomason halted a tense cross examination after a grueling session in which she described fleeing the scene, placing a bag under a wheel and vomiting after taking sleeping pills.
