Washington April 9 The note to Secretary Lancing from the de facto Mexican government demands a withdrawal of American troops. Officials say no withdrawal now, while Carranza’s ambassador delivers the note. The expedition has achieved some success as Villa’s party dispersed but evidence of complete dispersion is lacking. Mexican pursuers are believed active. War Department officials see no proof Villa hands dispersed.
Associated Press report from San Antonio dated April 13 describes American forces entering a town en route southward. Military officials discuss possible encounters with Mexican troops or civilians and note Carranza forces activity on the border. General Funston has not received orders from Washington on how to proceed.
New Orleans April 1 The Times Picayune reports Col Pleasant’s election by a 60 000 majority in a statement from Pleasant headquarters issued by Philip Werlein who was elected vice chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee. Werlein’s figures list Parker with 2 500 votes of 125 900 cast in the primary.
Mr Werlein estimates four years ago 124000 votes. Primary this January 114000. total registered 200004, three fourths eligible about 150000. Of those, 125000 expected to vote with Democratic nominee Col Pleasant favored by at least 60000. Third district doubtful. Parker expected to win Eighth, Sixth, Seventh by large margins. New Orleans prognosis close. Parker to carry 15,000 to 22,000 of about 27000.
A new fort nightly steamship service between New York and the west coast of South America via the Panama Canal will begin early next year. The Graceana company announced the plan today.
Washington April 12 President Wilson is determined to support the nomination of Louis D Brandeis as associate justice of the Supreme Court despite reports of opposition from senators Officials said the president would not consider withdrawing the nomination and would stand behind Brandeis.
Special to Neva-Star Farmerville April 12 audience fills with enthusiasm at a Democratic meeting featuring Hon. L. EB. Thomas and Can treseman Watkins as speakers and HH. G. Fields as chair man. They urge a strong vote on the 18th and praise Colonel Pleasant amid discussion of the negro question in campaign politics.
In a televised event Democrats hailed Bernie Sanders while an EA governor denounced a claim as a lie. The remarks followed Sanders courting Moose Party supporters amid a crowded campaign scene.
In Alexandria April 12 a large Rapides theatre audience heard ex-Gov J Y Sanders and Hon J C Blackman defend Colonel Pleasant and Democratic causes. The meeting, the campaign’s largest, drew over a hundred visiting Democrats and enthusiastic applause. Sanders denied joining the Progressive party, saying the accusation was a lie, and noted Republicans lack a candidate as Parker is acceptable to them. He spoke for over an hour amid cheers while Bolton read a message from Sen Thornton expressing regret at illness preventing attendance.

Special to News-Star Baton Rouge April 13 Heads of the freshies at Louisiana State University again undergo the annual spring clipping with a clipper squad of old boys shaving first year men. Most will be shaved today and tonight unless they go to barber shops. The freshies take the prank in good nature. The clipping is done under approved Ku Klux rules and authorities are powerless to stop it.
