Moscow television and radio described Maj. Yuri A. Gagarin as a bright, honest smiling figure. The 27 year old cosmonaut, born March 9 1934 in Smolensk area, married to Valentina Gagarina with two daughters, faced Nazi invasion as a child.
Radio Moscow contacted Jackson Daily News editor James M. Ward seeking comment on a March 29 event in which police used two leashed dogs during a crowd outside the city court as nine Negroes stood trial for breach of peace. Ward said the call mostly failed to yield usable answers.

Glenn Alven Doty Jr a 45 year old Jackson Mississippi salesman for Maytag died in St Francis Hospital after a heart attack suffered at the Penn Hotel. He was pronounced dead late Tuesday night and funeral arrangements were handled by Mulhearn and Light and Ferguson Funeral Homes.

Jones also announced a talk with H Payne Breazeale of the American Association of Railroads on railway contributions to the state economy.

James Otto Turley 56 a construction engineer of 1217 South Second Street Monroe died in a local hospital after a five week illness. He had lived in Monroe since 1934 and was a member of Central Baptist Church and engineers as operators local No 406. Funeral services Thursday at 10 a.m. at Hixson Brothers Chapel with Revs Charles Littleton and W E B Bennett officiating. Interment in Hasley Cemetery. He leaves his widow Iva Turley two sons J O Jr Norfolk Va two daughters Mrs W A Clark Monroe Mrs Raymond Goza Baton Rouge and Mrs Charles Lowery Santa Maria Calif his mother Mrs Ada Turley Houston two brothers O M and O L Turley Houston a sister Mrs Roy Kenner Houston and 11 grandchildren.
