Attention of politicians centers on the Keystone State as campaigns intensify ahead of statewide primaries. Candidates court voters in major cities and rural districts, highlighting issues from economy to infrastructure.
Pennsylvania faces its crucial presidential primaries with Taft backed by state machine forces and Roosevelt supporters hoping to gain delegates in up to ten districts. Democratic frontrunner Woodrow Wilson is favored to win a solid delegation, while Clark and Harmon may secure one or more delegates. The state also selects Congress and state-office candidates as Republicans defend against further losses in Congress.
The Illinois primary win by Roosevelt caused surprise and worry on Wall Street. M H I L division out above Lake Village. backwater washed track for over twelve miles. Trains run Lake Village to Ferriday. north service annulled. Also Baltimore April 12 Central Conference of American Rabbis opens in city addressing marriage divorce and anti Jewish caricature efforts.
A telegram to A. L. & G. offices from Hamburg Ark says the levee broke twelve miles above Luna Landing. Water is three feet deep in Lake Village with eight feet expected by night.
At 3 o clock this afternoon Jeff B. Snyder of Tallulah reported a message from Superintendent A G Able of the Iron Mountain saying efforts to hold the levee have been abandoned. The levee is expected to break before 5 o'clock this afternoon.
A night lettergram from A E Simonson of Luxora Arkansas warns towns in the Mississippi Valley near Luxora are endangered by floods. The National Drainage Congress received the alert at noon and Luxora citizens urged immediate federal government assistance via a telegram to President Taft.
Natchez reports the crest of the flood due next week as levee strengthening continues. Showers hinder work but no weak points reported. Ashland break forty miles north has not affected Natchez. Giles bend revetment remains intact though the river widens at the bend. The stage was rising at the time reported as 00.8.
Memphis reports communications cut with Luxora Osceola and Marked Tree Arkansas as levee dangers rise. Luxora residents relocate women and children to high ground while men reinforce levees and a warning signal is prepared for a possible break. Water in Marked Tree climbs about one inch per hour.
Tallulah La April 11 The top piping from Cabin Teele levee to Mullikens Bend ramp nears finish as crews extend earth filled sacks for protection. Upper end work continues to Moriney Landing and Delta Point. Weather stays clear and hot boosting levee strength ahead of expected crest Monday or Tuesday. President McClellan plans to inspect sites along the line before returning.
In Vicksburg Mississippi on April 12 a river flood tale tells how workers ran short of sandbags at Miller's Bend. An engineer ordered laborers to lie along the levee and form a human top to block the breach until more bags could arrive.
In New Orleans today officials report the Mississippi River rose only from two-tenths to half a foot in the past day south of Helena Ark. Levee boards and U S engineers say conditions are encouraging south of Vicksburg. Only Bayou Sara La protection levee and lines about sixty miles south of New Orleans show difficulties as engineers hope to gain the upper hand against rising water.
State Superintendent of Public Education T. H. Harris arrives in Monroe for a visit to discuss local school programs and statewide education initiatives with district officials.

Washington reports the death of Clara Barton founder of the American Red Cross at her Glen Echo home at 9 this morning. Cause listed as chronic pneumonia. Her brother Stephen Barton of Boston was present.

Columbus Georgia April 12 James Jefferson on death row for killing Policeman Marion Marchante resisted arrest and faced execution but took poison in his cell early this morning. He had vowed he would not hang and the means by which he obtained the poison remains a mystery.
Weather bulletin warns Monroe of rising waters as rainfall continues. Officials project stage 15.5 feet by Tuesday April 16, signaling heightened flood risk and potential evacuations.
The Ouachita River near Monroe rose .7 feet in 24 hours to 43.9 feet, threatening West Monroe as rain boosts levels. Water covers Haynes addition and backs town land. mills shut and river and Lake Beulah merge. Officials warn of possible higher stages by April 16 and note reported levee breaks on Red Fork could worsen flooding.
In New York on April 12 engineers on fifty railroads east of Chicago and north of the Norfolk and Western voted by a large margin to authorize a strike if wage negotiations fail. They originally sought a 15 percent increase. General managers scheduled a meeting for April 15 to discuss the vote.
The government steamer Joseph E. Ransdell cleared the city bridges twice today signaling active river traffic and governmental operations.
