New Orleans April 11. The New Orleans Cotton Exchange urged Congress to free bagging and ties arguing tariffs under the Payne Aldrich law rob the cotton planter. Resolutions call for legislation at the extra session and a letter from President W B Thompson to each member details alleged tariff theft harming the South’s cotton trade.

Cleveland, April 11. The city mourns the death of Tom L. Johnson former four time mayor and congressman. He championed three cent streetcar fares and the single tax doctrine of Henry George dying at 8 45 pm after a long illness cirrhosis of the liver at age 57. Johnson had been ill over a year and recently rallied briefly before his death.
W A Jones of Shreveport responds to a letter about his absence from the Local Publicity Committee of the Louisiana Farm Land Congress. He states he was unaware of the meeting, not a committee member, and did not authorize or know of funds use. He notes Monroe community pride may fund publicity and mentions treasurer M L Alexander of Alexandria.
A Camden store fire at M P Watts & Bro dry goods and grocery, one of Southern Arkansas' largest firms, caused about 50 000 in damage. The two story brick building suffered heavy stock losses as water flooded the top floor and the roof burned away, with clothing valued around 20 000 nearly lost. defective wiring is suspected and insurance may cover about half the loss.
