John Madden Dies Former Louisiana Official at 72
John L. Madden longtime Louisiana state assistant attorney general and former state representative from Claiborne Parish died early today in St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. He was 72. Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home chapel with The Rev. Charles Holland and The Rev. Ernest Holloway officiating. Burial follows in Riverside Cemetery. Madden served as assistant AG for 28 years and led Louisiana in the lidistand dispute with the federal government. A Homer native, he attended the University of Virginia and Tulane University, earning BA and LLB degrees. He was elected to the Louisiana House in 1928. He authored articles on the tideslands dispute and recently published Federal and State Lands in Louisiana. Survived by widow Frances Ferguson Madden, two daughters, and four grandchildren.

He was born in Oak Ridge and belonged to First Baptist Church. Survived by widow Arlene Dryer Nolan two daughters five sisters and three brothers.
