The Louisiana State Medical association began its 49th annual meeting in Baton Rouge with a welcome from Mayor Wade H. Bynum and Dr. Co Lorio. The event runs through Thursday with a Wednesday session at Jackson’s East Louisiana Hospital for the Insane. Dr. F. T. Gounux of Lockport was nominated for president for a year hence. New Orleans chosen as 1929 convention site. L. J. Menville to become president-elect at session end. other officers and counsellor nominated for various districts.

Fines and jail terms for men setting woods afire
In Franklinton district court on Monday April 2 Judge P B Carter found J B Smith Walter Hunt King Magee and Cecil Carter guilty of setting fire to the forest. Smith and Hunt received 200 fines and 99 days in jail with 9 months more if the fine is not paid. Magee was fined 50 and 60 days in jail while Carter got 25 and 30 days in jail with 90 days extra if the fines are not paid. Other defendants Joe Luther Cleve Duncan and Joe Magee are under bond. Judge Carter warns the Washington parish forests shall not be wantonly destroyed.

Veteran Justice of Peace Dies at N C at Age 82
Judge Louis Edgar Arnault a descendant of Louisiana pioneers and longtime justice of the peace at Shrewsbury died in New Orleans at 82. He had been ill for a week and died in the house where he was born, the family homestead held since 1727. Survived by his wife Louise Jeanne Durel and one son, he was recently reelected to another term as justice of the peace.
