Ten U S Democrats and six British MPs urge the United Nations to assume policing of all Berlin territories now occupied by Soviet and Western troops. The plan envisions a gradual transfer and cites aim to aid East West German reconciliation.
Belhaven College president Dr. McFerran Crowe and at least four faculty members resign amid a clash over enrollment policy and professor beliefs. Crowe says resignations take effect at year end and he has accepted a call to a church in Port Gibson.
A cold front moved through the Twin Cities between five and six this morning bringing clearing skies later. Yesterday's high reached 77 with a 62 low and .16 inches of rain. Midnight reading was 64, dropping to 54 by 10 a.m. with further falls expected.
Ouachita Parish Grand Jury returned forty five true bills after a three day investigation. Indictments include a 19 year old son Claude Crawford for the January 17 shotgun killing of his 46 year old father on the Cheniere banks and a 20 year old Claudine Smith for the March 21 stabbing of James Bowden on Berg Jones Lane. Additional indictments will be announced as suspects are booked or bonds posted. The panel urged the police jury to address jail overcrowding and noted wiring repairs at the Louisiana Training Institute and at the E A Conway Memorial Charity Hospital parking and traffic flow. The Conway Hospital and Green Oaks Detention Home were praised for cleanliness.
A totally disabled veteran, Jesse Cross, 24, Negro, was robbed and struck with a sharp object by about 10 hoodlums on a Brooklyn street Wednesday night. They cut pockets from his jacket and pants and fled. Cross was in an advanced stage of tuberculosis. Police could not determine the loot.
Secretary of State Wade Martin Jr announces an anti Long coalition to unite forces under capable leadership to defeat Earl Long possibly in the first primary. About 60 people met secretly at a motel to discuss improving conditions and leverage political influence.
Elmer B. Fant of West Monroe completed requirements for a Bachelor of Divinity degree at Emory University He studied at Candler School of Theology and was one of 68 students earning degrees at the end of the winter quarter.
The Twin City Symphony will give its third concert of the season in Brown Hall tonight at 8 30. Dr Harry Lemnert head of the fine arts department at Northeast toured the group. Featured soloist is Marjorie Hayward Madey an American soprano living in Baton Rouge.
More than 200 Shriners from across northeast Louisiana are expected to converge on a regional gathering, with plans for parade activities, charity outreach, and community events throughout the weekend. The group aims to raise funds for hospital services and youth programs.
Ouachita Parish officials plan to use tax election funds for road work and a Health Unit building project. A five man committee led by M. W. Montgomery will oversee road spending and will reject ward system rules. Mayor Howard says the Health Unit vacated building will be used by the Utilities Commission. Drainage and Detention Home taxes were approved and work cannot begin before December.
World famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, 89, founder of the modern school of building craftsmanship, died in St. Joseph's Hospital Phoenix after emergency intestinal obstruction surgery. He leaves widow, son Frank Lloyd Wright Jr., granddaughter Anne Baxter, and many descendants. Wright, famed for Taliesin West and Taliesin in Wisconsin, faced mixed verdicts but gained major acclaim for his boldly individualistic style and the Imperial Hotel Tokyo surviving the 1923 earthquake.
The Monroe IRS district warns taxpayers to file Federal Income Tax Returns for 1958 by April 15. John L. Tolar urges citizens under 65 with gross income 600 or more, and those 65 or over with 1200 or more, to file now and avoid last minute rush. Telephoning the NRS office can help with uncomplicated matters.
The trial of Clayton Edwards 73 of Winnfield for shooting his neighbor is expected to wrap up today or tomorrow. Witness J. T. Riley 83 testified about the confrontation and the alleged pretrial challenge regarding a hog dispute.
Two 14 and 15 year old boys held at the Macomb County Youth Home on burglary charges as they allegedly stole school supplies and a dentist’s materials to build telescopes and a home made camera. Police tracked them with Juvenile Officer Arthur Ladas and Detective Sgt. Leo Warfield. Fathers, a postal worker and a factory worker, supported their scientific pursuits with gifts.
San Franciscans tired of three days of loud sonic bangs were told by aviation experts that the problem will worsen as aircraft fly faster than sound. Dr. Max Heaslet of NASA warned there is no secret to dispersing the pressures causing the vibrations.
A five vote tally error changes Fulton Kansas city council from a majority of women to three men and two women. Despite the shift the city elects a woman mayor Mabel Austin 72 who defeats Mayor Howard Post. Esther Watson 65 falls from third to sixth in council race after canvass lowers her votes from 40 to 35.
At the American Academy of General Practice meeting in San Francisco twenty one of the first 350 doctors screened show serious or potential illness. A 140-person volunteer team conducts the checks, a project to test large scale free exams unfamiliar to ordinary practice, with final results to rise as more doctors are examined.
Oklahoma bootleggers confront obsolescence as repeal nears on July 1. They fear unsold whisky remains and push for rapid sales and price cuts. "Big Mac" McCarthy, self styled King of Bootleggers, welcomes legalization and halts the grind.

Diplomats note Adenauer’s broadcast focused on the British German rift and his plans to step down if elected president, while criticizing Macmillan’s four year old disarmament idea and talks of a West East Germany conference.

Benton Louisiana AP report details Gertrude Dowden accusing Sheriff deputy Tamp Bundy of beating Jessie Futch to extract a confession after a failed escape plan. Futch and Homer L. Thomas allegedly used saw blades hidden in a drain pipe to cut through cell bars March 23.
