Ouachita farmers expressed approval of Mr Holden’s addresses and demonstrations highlighting practical farming methods and hands on guidance for crop and livestock care.
Prof Holden addressed Ouachita parish planters at Monroe City Hall and City School urging farmers to stop wasting funds on tin cans and to test seed for higher yields He cited Iowa and Illinois results and urged a winter school for hundreds of farmers with data on heredity and field trials.
Forecast calls for unsettled conditions with showers and thunderstorm chances tonight or Thursday and a cooler air mass moving in afterward.

London April 9 Associated Press reports King Nicholas of Montenegro has arranged to abdicate. The plan involves his family leaving Montenegro and a union with Serbia, with the king and family retaining succession rights to Montenegro if needed.

A Monroe hotel banquet honoring Prof Perry G Holden was interrupted when Holden refused to enter the dining room with former Senator William Lorimer of Illinois. Local leaders including C C Kirkpatrick and J M Parker championed backing the movement to boost corn production and regional progress, with Prof Holden and E S Richardson stressing home food production and club work.
A massive turnout greeted Prof Holden in Rus ton and Jonesboro as the Holden Corn Special toured. Farmers and citizens packed the depot and heard Bruner introduce the speaker while Tremont Lumber Co sawmill halted during the address.
Winnfield La April 9 The Holden Corn Special described as the biggest effort to boost farming arrived on time. Three meetings were held City Hall courthouse and High School with Prof Holden and others urging corn improvement and farm prosperity. The train left for Alexandria at 2 PM with all aboard upbeat.
Washington April 9 President Wilson stated the Federal Government would not interfere with California legislation barring aliens who have not declared intent to naturalize from owning land or property. He communicated this stance to officials.
The Seventeenth Amendment will become operative at once and change how U S senators are chosen. This marks a shift from state legislatures to direct popular election throughout the United States.
Washington April 9. The seventeenth amendment changing to direct popular election of United States Senators is adopted. It provides two senators per state for six years with one vote each and allows temporary appointments to fill vacancies when authorized by state legislatures.
