Vicksburg’s Centennial Celebrated From Virginia Pioneers
Vicksburg grew from a Virginia Methodist settlement led by Rev Newitt Vick near Open Woods. The 1812 arrivals, including Foster Cook, laid out lots and built a city. Vicksburg incorporated 1825 under President and Town, later renamed City of Vicksburg in 1856. By 1835 it had 2500 to 3000 residents. Centennial events set for May 14-15 include a historical pageant and flower parade.
