In New York on April 5 prices advanced with broad demand and steady close. May futures rose to 6.47 to 6.85, shifting 8 to 11 points, while spot middling traded around 6.50 as market cooled toward late afternoon.
Liverpool market reports steady tones with improved business and higher quotes across grades. American cotton futures show gains with values for good middling around 5.62 and strict low middling near 4.33 while futures for May and July rise to 4.95 and 4.98 respectively.
Chicago livestock prices for April 5 show active demand with 18 000 head reported. Weland McBroom remained jailed in Ouachita parish as Judge Ben Dawkins set April 20 for a rule to revoke his suspended federal sentence on charges of larceny and arson. McBroom denied violations and argued lack of state conviction. Leo Hill’s trial date was also set for April 20.
Bernard F. Dickmann real estate man was named the first Democratic mayor in St. Louis in 24 years by a 15 591 plurality. He defeated Republican Walter J G Neun president of the board of aldermen. Nolte won re election as comptroller leading Madden by 38 184 and giving Republicans two of three board seats.14 Democratic aldermen added to party control.
