The Ouachita National Bank purchased the derrick machinery and other equipment of the J Harrison Rhymes well five or six miles south of Monroe. The $1,510 sheriff sale on credit over twelve months funded the purchase to satisfy an $850 debt held by Slagle Johnson Lumber and Lester and Howard. The well, started by Jack Parker and others, reached nearly 4000 feet with oil prospects seen. experts expect oil with additional drilling under 500 feet.

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce will remain neutral on Louisiana natural gas resource conservation in regard to carbon black plants in the Monroe field. After a heated discussion, the board decided to hold any action on pipelines into the field for New Orleans in abeyance. President John M. Foster cited rising carbon interests and noted the field now yields 650 million cubic feet of gas daily, with seven million used by the city and three million by others. He claimed carbon interests expend about 2000000 for wages last year, excluding drilling and construction. Sam Kaplan urged support for state conservation efforts and a measured local approach.

Jewelry Store Burglary at South Grand Street
S J Riveire Son's jewelry store on South Grand street was burglarized Saturday night. The thief forced a rear window through wire netting and screen and stole trays of gold filled lockets and charms silver band rings bracelets brooches pins and rosaries plus about twenty pairs of large round shelled rimmed eyeglasses. A $100 reward was offered for the arrest and conviction of the culprit.
