Washington April 4 The Senate confirmed Winthrop M Daniels as a member of the Interstate Commerce Commission after a three day battle and disclosures that Daniels urged President Wilson to withdraw his nomination and Wilson refused. Daniels is a personal friend of the President. Senators questioned Daniels views on rebroad valuations.
Vicksburg April 4 Judge Brien overruled three defense motions in the Lieut Governor Bilbo bribery case He refused to recuse himself and to reuse jury from the Hobbs case He declared the court had jurisdiction and Bilbo is jointly charged with State Senator Hobbs who was acquitted

Republican senators drift toward opposing the president’s repeal policy while administration allies vow no compromise, aided by key colleagues Root Lodge Burton and McCumber. A separate Edmons of Pa bill would remit tolls for ten years to U S ships using Panama routes, with ships required to carry mail and be free from railroad control, subject to Commerce Department approval and US law.
