Officers of the Commercial League of West Monroe were elected for the year led by President J H Hamilton. J G Cobb is vice president with T C Drew as treasurer and L N Larche secretary. Directors include J R Tidwell FE Harper C W Waine W A Kirkpatrick R P Benson McCormick and A H Lanadale. Regular meetings set for the second and fourth Wednesdays at 6 pm.

Orphanage Day Observed by Monroe Methodists

The Monroe and West Monroe Methodist churches join in a regional Faster Sunday observance to support the Ruston Methodist orphanage. Collections will be taken October and on Faster Sundays with a goal higher than last year’s $40,000, aiding more than 150 children and reinforcing the Bible’s call to care for the widowed and fatherless.

Negro burglar arrested after bloodhounds trail

John Boamer, a negro, was arrested on a burglary charge in the Tidwell-Larche store robbery on the west side. Bloodhounds from Caldwell parish trailed him for miles, aiding the arrest, and Boamer reportedly confessed to the robbery. He had been employed at Benson and Madden's mill for R. P. Benson.

War Move Reported in Mexico on West Coast

Nogales April 3 Americans arriving on the night train from Manzanillo and the west coast of Mexico report that large numbers of soldiers are mobilizing along the Southern Pacific railway of Mexico. No official explanation of these movements has been given.

White man held on forgery charges in Monrse

T D Easley a white man about 25 is jailed in Monrse on two forgery complaints by Fred Stovall and Charles Eichel. He allegedly forged the Stovall Drilling Co name on two checks for 24 and 7 and passed one for 17 in merchandise and cash. He tried to pass a 3 check at TD Masur & Sons but failed. Central Savings Bank and Trust Co. checks were involved. Detectives suspect further citywide connections and possible warrants elsewhere.

Nat Johnson Arrested on Alleged False Pretenses

Deputy Sheriff Roper arrested Nat Johnson about 10 o clock this morning on advice from Rayville. Johnson, described as a hard worker, is wanted for alleged false pretence. He had been working here for the Eckhart and Lennon company and is reported to have arrived Sunday. he will be taken back to Rayville this afternoon.
