The Caldwell Parish police jury ordered a parish wide election for May 20 to authorize a tax up to ten mills for 30 years and issue 400000 in bonds at five percent. Opponents may be more active than supporters. If approved, all other special road taxes except per capita tax would be abolished.
Paris reports the council of four virtually agrees that the left bank of the Rhine will be neutralized until Germany pays the peace conference indemnities. French and Belgian troops would hold the territory while the United States opposes leaving American forces in Europe after the peace treaty.
Marfa Texas April 2 report says 80th Cavalry Captain Atlick led Troop K in a pursuit across the Rio Grande through a hailstorm and killed five bandits recovering stolen horses and cattle then returning them to the American side per Col George T Langhorne district headquarters. Washington April 2 Representative Kitchin NC chair of Ways and Means opposes general tariff revision under unstable conditions stating Democrats would not risk new tariffs if they control the House.
In New Orleans and nearby markets gas prices jumped to 23 cents per gallon after a brief decline. Major refiners Standard Oil Gulf Refining and Liberty posted 22 to 23 cent quotes while Texas Oil kept its price at 23.
Southern pine lumber manufacturers at a Mass Meeting in New Orleans today rejected a proposal by the United States Department of Commerce's industrial board to form a joint price agreement to stabilize markets. They said such action would harm the public and industry, violate anti trust laws, and risk prosecution.

A newborn white baby girl was found drifting in the Ouachita River near Grayling Lumber Co. around 5 pm Wednesday. An inquest by a coroner's jury ruled the cause of death unknown. The infant, about six days in water and naked, was wrapped in two newspapers and later brought to Monroe for burial preparations.
