The Louisiana Baptist Women’s Missionary Union convention enters its final day at First Baptist Church. Officers will be elected at 3:59 pm, with the closing prayer at 7:30 pm. State police captured Dominick Piccone, 20, ex convict released two weeks, after he allegedly killed Cassius Barber, Romaine Potter, and Carl McKenzie. Trooper Roy Perkins reported Piccone confessed and aided by a fourth man in fleeing. Police pursued near Otteville Genesee County, ending a spree across Oxford area with two deaths on neighboring farms.

General Douglas MacArthur's headquarters said Brigadier General Patrick J. Hurley was sworn in as United States minister to New Zealand after resigning from active duty. He had served as secretary of war and assumed the post in Wellington after a period with the U S Army in the southwest Pacific.

Olin R. Holt, former Kokomo mayor and two time convict, filed for the Democratic nomination in Indiana's Fifth district. Holt, who served prison terms for conspiracy and WPA fraud, plans to appeal his latest conviction as he runs in the May 5 primary.
Honolulu April 2 The navy commends First Lieutenant James V. Edmundson Santa Monica Calif a former Santa Monica Junior College football star for bravery after his crew sank a Japanese submarine off Oahu. He was wounded by a December 7 fragment yet continued the mission flying more than 40,000 miles on Hawaiian dawn patrol.
Los Angeles April 2. Rob ert Nobie founder of the isolationist Friends of Progress said he would not mind going to prison if convicted of sedition. He and Ellis O. Jones were jailed by the FBI on sedition charges and held on 10,000 bond each pending a hearing April 15. Nobie defended his actions as not criminal and declared he admires Hitler and opposed Roosevelt and MacArthur.
In a lifeboat amid 15 foot Atlantic waves a mother Desanka Mohorovich and ship doctor L H Conly helped deliver Jesse Roper Mohorovich eight pounds. The ship was torpedoed by an Axis submarine. three crewmen died and 29 others were missing. Mother baby and others survived and were taken to Norfolk where the infant and mother with sister Visna were treated. The crew raised 210 dollars and a layette was provided by the NavyRelic society. The doctor praised the mother as brave and lovely.
Senator O Mahoney charged that before World War II Standard Oil of New Jersey and I G Farben formed a world wide cartel to restrain economic opportunity. He cited Farish admissions and warned that such domination endangers American freedom. The remarks followed Farish’s Senate testimony on synthetic rubber development and a clash with Thurman Arnold.
February 1942 in Monroe showed stronger activity than February 1941 with postal receipts up 68 percent and telephones in service up 95 percent. Senator Taft Ohio Republican proposed creation of a board to fix ceilings on war profits. Administration leaders seek compromise on a 6 percent limit added by the House to the military appropriations bill of 18.301 billion. Taft predicted the Senate appropriations committee would strike out the House amendment. Nelson and military officials work on a substitute to present to the committee.
