A high state official said an arrest of a gang member, possibly the brains behind the Lindbergh abduction, was expected soon after tips from Paul Wendel. Wendel was questioned in Mercer county jail as federal agents aided New York and New Jersey authorities in Brooklyn.

Former Tennessee senator and financier Colonel Luke Lea walked from the North Carolina state prison a free man after a parole for exemplary conduct. He served nearly two years of a six to ten year sentence for conspiracy to violate banking laws and was released with his son Luke Lea Jr and Mrs Lea Jr. present.

Isidore Singer, 56, vice-president of Singer Lumber in New Orleans, died of a heart attack. A Polish native who settled in 1900, he later helped organize the lumber firm with his brother Max Singer and nephew Sam Stone. Survived by his widow, a daughter Mrs. Morris Caplan, and a son Irving Singer.
In Hot Springs Arkansas on April 2 FIA Charles Lucky Luciano reputed overlord of a 12000000 New York vice ring directed from his jail cell here today against extradition to face compulsory prostitution charges. He gained freedom on 5000 bail hours earlier after being picked up and rearrested last night and jailed in a courthouse basement pending habeas corpus hearing. Special Prosecutor Thomas E Dewey called him the most dangerous racketeer in New York if not the country. He had been under NYPD surveillance since January and was taken into custody yesterday afternoon on Bath House Row jailed for four hours then released on bail before Chancellor Sam W Garrett.
The biography of Rose McConnell Long traces birth in Greensburg Louisiana marriage to Huey P Long and service in the United States Senate filling the late senator's term. Born in Greensburg she moved to Isis studied in Shreveport and later lived at 14 Audubon New Orleans. She bore three children and was appointed senator on January 31 1936.
