Holy Year Ends With Papal Ceremony In Vatican City
Pope Pius XI closed the Holy Year by walling up the Holy Door at St. Peter’s in a solemn Vatican ceremony attended by cardinals dignitaries and thousands. He blessed bricks and mortar and departed through the door after a Latin blessing. The year began April 2, 1933 and drew about 1.2 million pilgrims to Rome. Bishop Francis C. Kelley of Oklahoma City and Bishop Edward Joseph Kelly of Boise City were among attendees.

Night watchman held up in Texas town by pair
Brownwood Texas April 2 Two persons one claiming to be Clyde Barrow held up night watchman Howard Strickland at Blanket ten miles west of Brownwood early today stealing about 10 gallons of gasoline. Strickland fired four times but believes no shots hit. The pair fled in a black sedan with yellow wheels. Strickland said they obtained gas at a filling station while pistols were pointed at him. He could not tell if both were men. One wore a cap the other bare headed. The men turned off the main road 10 miles and headed toward Mercersap.

Planter Questioned in Fatal Mississippi Valley Crash
